Cafe Concert program text

Beskou0195Traveling back in time, I realize my calling to the sounds of Tango and especially the music of Astor Piazzolla, based on the Original Tango.

In this new production, I’m choreographically approaching for the first time the original tango steps, the ganchos and firuletes, the very sexual intertwining of the legs, the lowered gazes, the way the man leads the woman, which all suggest an eroticism without fanfare, simple, internal, voluptuous and earthly, following the sound of the bandoneon, which embroiders the steps one by one.

The endless scope of the music, the intense changes, the violin that speaks, become one with the legs and the souls of the dancers and intensely determine the emotional changes of the couple. What impressed me in Argentina was that the musicians, the dancers, the singers are completely involved in what they are doing, with the result that they communicate it in the simplest and most direct way to all the spectators.

When I found myself in ’98 in the small wooden bar in Buenos Aires, I remember my intense desire to have all the people I love near me, so that they could share the magic of the moment with me.

Beskou0170Thus, I choreographed Tango in combination with classic and modern dance, based on the eros and the passion of the most erotic and timeless dance which is sweeping Europe and America.

The result is that a choreographer, from a different education, culture and personality, penetrates the beauty of the endless sound of the bandoneon, in the wet back streets of Buenos Aires and communicates the feelings of two people, irrespective of where they are or where they come from, one opposite the other, interested only in what they have to say and share with each other.

My desire is to communicate and share with the audience my love and passion for the best choice I’ve ever made in my life, dance.

Café Concert

By Mirka Dimitriades – Psaropoulou

Beskou0174Christina Beskou is especially “sensitive” when it comes to tango….

Café Concert was a very well structured performance, concluding with reciting of Pablo Neruda’s poems, and passionate executions of Beskou’s choreographic synthesis, performed by the four couples that danced together with the excellent Argentinean dancers Veronica Kuttel and Pablo Medici. The choreographies, based on the tango original steps, as well as the authenticity on the movements of the guest’s couple enraptured the audience.
